What is Family Practice?

Family Practice is comprehensive medical care with special emphasis on the family unit.  A Family Practice provider serves all age groups from infants to older people.  Emphasis is on prevention of disease, maintenance of health and rehabilitation and the care of the patients with acute or chronic illness.

A Family Practice provider has a broad and comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of  medicine including (but not limited to) internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, surgery and psychiatry.  The family provider is trained to assume a unique role in patient management, problem solving and counseling.  This core of knowledge prepares the provider to coordinate total and combining health care delivery for the patient while involving the patient’s family.

Rio Grande Family Medicine places emphasis on staying healthy.  We stress preventive health services such as health education and regular check-ups.  We likewise offer Women’s Health.  You are encouraged to seek treatment for illness in the earliest stages to prevent serious problems later.
