Beth Corbin-Hsi, RN, CCRNCo-Founder of Rio Grande Family Medicine In 1987 Beth and her husband, Dr. Steven Hsi, made the risky decision to open Rio Grande Family Medicine. This was at a time when many physicians were beginning to abandon their private practices for the security of staff and administrative positions with various health care systems. "We made the decision to go against that trend because we believed in the idea of a small family practice. We were disenchanted with the way medicine was being practiced in hospitals and HMO's. We wanted to spend time with our patients and get to know their families." "We were fortunate to find staff that shared our values. So, we set about the business of building a practice. Patients responded to our approach. They wanted to come to a place where a human being answered the telephone and the staff knew their names." In 1999, Dr. Hsi died as a result of a 5 year struggle with a rare autoimmune disease. Today RGFM is staffed with 2 physicians and 2 family nurse practitioners and the same loyal staff that has been here since the beginning. "Our goals haven't changed. We still answer the telephone and call our patients by name. We spend time with them and know their families. We are committed to giving them the best possible care we can provide." |
